How we make what you read.
If you are weighing whether to move a life, or a large sum of money, across a border, you have earned a straight answer about how the advice in front of you gets made. Here it is: all of it, proudly.
Where the material comes from
Everything on this site rests on two kinds of ground. The first is lived: Peter's twenty-one years in the same corner of the Var, the years both of us have spent in Cascais, and Simone's working life inside the residence-and-relocation world. The second is checked: named, inspectable sources (official rules, published prices, people we can point to) for everything our own experience doesn't cover. When a piece needs both, it gets both.
An AI-assisted newsroom, named and not hidden
MedLifestyle operates a modern, AI-assisted editorial system, we built it, and we call it Carmen. Carmen does the relentless work that used to eat a newsroom's week: pulling research, drafting against our house voice, and checking the details most sites never get to. Naming it is deliberate. We would rather tell you exactly how the work is made than let you guess.
Nothing here publishes on a hunch. Every article is scored before it goes out, judged by more than one independent model against a quality floor we set, and anything that doesn't clear the bar doesn't run. The standards are ours. The floor is ours. And the result carries a human name: Peter Hjortsoe holds editorial ownership of everything published here. Carmen produces and checks; Peter's standards decide what is acceptable, and his name stands behind what goes live. That is the whole point of a masthead with a person on it instead of a logo.
We keep checking after we publish
This is where most sites stop and we don't. Within a day of an article going live, an automated pass spot-checks its citations against the sources they claim. Every night, a link-health sweep catches anything that has broken or moved. Every month, a fact-refresh pass re-examines the details that go stale (prices, thresholds, rules) so a piece you find a year from now is still one you can act on. When any of that surfaces an error, we correct it in the open and say that we did. The full policy is our corrections page.
What we never do
Some lines do not move:
- We do not invent anecdotes or specifics. If a detail is on the page, it is real. A lived moment is ours, actually lived; a figure is a figure we can stand behind.
- We do not publish healthcare content. We are not qualified to, and we will not pretend otherwise.
- We do not dress advertising up as editorial. Sponsored work is labeled as sponsored work, at the top, where you cannot miss it.
- We do not bury disclosures. Where we make money, we say so in plain sight.
- We do not use urgency or fear to move you on a money decision. No countdowns, no "act now," no manufactured scarcity around a house or a visa. These choices deserve to be made slowly.
When something is wrong
We correct it, plainly and in place, and we note on the article that we did. If you spot an error, write to editor@medlifestyle.eu: a person reads it, and we would rather hear it early than late. How a correction is triggered, how fast we move, and how it is marked on the piece is set out in full on our corrections policy.
Where the money comes from
This site is a business, and we would rather you knew how it earns than guessed. In short: vetted professionals and partners pay to be part of the network, some links earn us a commission, and clearly-labeled sponsored pieces are paid for, but none of that decides what an article concludes. The full, unhedged version, including what we refuse to do, is on the partners and disclosure page. It is worth two minutes.
That is the method. We built it, we stand behind it, and you can test it against the articles themselves. What we hold ourselves to, line by line, is in our editorial standards.
